Ashley King, LCMHCA
Clinical Mental Health Counselor
Ashley is a U.S. Army (Special Forces) spouse of over ten years, who completed an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in December 2025. Before pursuing a graduate degree in counseling, she worked in business and higher education, primarily in communication and career development. Ashley has also volunteered for The Honor Foundation (THF), a career transition program for U.S. Special Forces Operators. As an Executive Career Coach, she supports her assigned Fellow in every facet of his professional and personal development, helping him identify unknown resources and develop much-needed self-confidence. Due to her coaching success, she became a volunteer faculty member for THF’s Fort Bragg campus, teaching resume design. Combined with her knowledge as a military spouse, Ashley is well situated to support military Veterans and their families in the greater Fort Bragg-Fayetteville region.
The thread that connects her past work in higher education and counseling is empowering adults to advance in their chosen life path. Depending on the client’s needs, she works from multiple therapeutic modalities, including acceptance and commitment therapy, internal family systems, and narrative therapy. In addition to establishing safety and trust through trauma-informed care, Ashley encourages clients to explore their values, which help them conceptualize and promote a purpose-filled life. As a therapist, she works alongside clients to develop the skills to regulate their emotions and accept life’s difficulties. Ashley believes every client can rewrite their life story and find restored hope by taking committed action towards values-based living.
Ashley holds a Doctor of Philosophy in English & Comparative Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a recipient of the Frankel Dissertation Fellowship (Spring 2017). She also has a Master of Arts in English Literature from Purdue University. She is a current member of the Rho Eta Sigma Epsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota and a recipient of the Special Forces Scholarship (Fall 2025).
