Kyle Grohmann, Ph.D., ABPP
Clinical and Operational Psychologist
Dr. Kyle Grohmann is a clinical and operational psychologist with more than 15 years of experience supporting Special Operations Forces (SOF) personnel and their families as both a military officer and civilian provider. He is board-certified in clinical psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).
Kyle earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and his master’s and doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. After completing the Clinical and Operational Psychology Residency at Fort Bragg in 2010, Kyle served as the active-duty SERE Psychologist at Camp Mackall from 2011 to 2013. Following his transition from active-duty, he worked as an embedded operational psychologist through the Preservation of the Force and Family (POTFF) program supporting a Joint Special Operations Command unit from 2013 to 2016. During this period, he was activated and deployed to Afghanistan as the Command Psychologist for a Special Operations Task Force from late 2014 through early 2015. During a brief relocation in 2017, Kyle continued supporting multiple U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) units before returning to Camp Mackall in 2018 as a full-time operational and clinical psychologist supporting SERE, SFAS, SFQC, and other specialized programs.
Kyle’s 15+ years of serving as an embedded psychologist within the Special Operations community have provided him with a deep understanding of its culture, values, operational demands, and unique stressors. Having worked closely with operators, candidates, and their families throughout the training pipeline and operational lifecycle, he understands the challenges associated with high operational tempo, repeated deployments, family strain, transition, and the cumulative effects of prolonged stress. Kyle works with active-duty service members, veterans, spouses, couples, and adolescents challenged by trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, survivor’s guilt, relationship concerns, occupational stress, life transitions, sleep difficulties, performance concerns, and the challenges that often accompany military service and post-military life. His approach is practical, collaborative, and individualized. Clients frequently describe him as approachable, genuine, and easy to talk with, a quality he attributes to years spent working alongside – and learning from – military and SOF personnel. He believes effective treatment requires not only clinical expertise but also a genuine understanding of the culture, experiences, and values that shape the lives of those he serves.
Kyle draws from a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and other evidence-based treatments tailored to each individual’s needs and goals. Licensed in Illinois and North Carolina and authorized to practice under PSYPACT in participating states, Kyle provides confidential, professional care designed to help individuals and families navigate challenges, strengthen resilience, and build and maintain meaningful lives both during, after, and away from military service. His goal is to provide practical, effective support that respects the realities of SOF life while helping individuals and families move toward greater health, resilience, connection, and fulfillment.
