Linsey Schwartz
LPC-R
I am currently a Resident in Counseling in the State of Virginia. I have a Master of Arts in Counseling from St Edward’s University, a Graduate Certification in Advanced International Affairs and Intelligence from Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government & Public Service, and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from McMurry University. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in national security and intelligence settings, including positions with the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), and as a contractor supporting the CIA’s Special Activities Center. In each of these roles, I worked directly alongside military members, veterans, and Special Operations personnel, which gave me firsthand insight into the unique stressors, operational demands, transitions, and relationship challenges that often come with these environments.
I am also married to a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps who completed five combat tours. Supporting my husband through his PTSD recovery has deeply shaped both my personal understanding of trauma and the way I approach therapy. I understand that healing is rarely linear, and I recognize the importance of trust, patience, consistency, and emotional safety throughout the process.
My approach to therapy is grounded, practical, and nonjudgmental, with a strong emphasis on safety, stabilization, and meeting clients where they are. Clients can trust that I remain steady and present in session regardless of the topic being discussed. I work collaboratively with each client, pacing sessions carefully and adjusting in real time based on individual needs, readiness, and goals. I integrate evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches, including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), attachment-focused therapy, values-based work, and nervous system stabilization techniques. I tailor treatment to each individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I commonly work with clients experiencing:
- PTSD and combat-related trauma
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Hypervigilance and nervous system dysregulation
- Emotional shutdown and difficulty expressing emotions
- Relationship and communication challenges
- Burnout and operational stress
- Identity shifts and transition-related stress
- Military, veteran, and Special Operations mental health
- Men’s mental health
- Spouse and family stress related to military service
I offer online therapy sessions and a free 15-minute consultation to help determine whether we are a good fit.
