About Me
Dr Keith Klostermann is an internationally renowned expert in the use of Behavioral Couples Therapy for Substance Use Disorders (BCT-SUD).
Dr. Klostermann is licensed as both a mental health counselor and marriage and family therapist. In addition, he is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, is recognized as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and is a certified family therapist (CFT). The American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) recognizes him as a Fellow in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Education and Research and Diplomate and Clinical Mental Counseling Specialist in Couples and Family Counseling, Child and Adolescent Counseling, and Military Counseling.
Dr. Klostermann is a Quality Assurance Manager at the Cohen Veterans Network and Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia.
Dr. Klostermann has extensive research experience serving in a variety of roles in federally funded clinical trials (e.g., PI, Co-PI, Consultant) examining the impact of substance use on family functioning. Dr. Klostermann has also served as a clinical consultant for numerous agencies, including the Calgary Counselling Center in Calgary, Alberta; Phoenix House in New York City, and Best Self Behavioral Health, Buffalo, NY) in their implementation of BCT-SUD.
Dr. Klostermann is recognized by the national VA Healthcare System as a couples therapy content expert and served as one of the lead trainers in their national implementation of BCT for treating individuals with substance use disorders. Most recently, he served as a Co-Investigator with colleagues from Edinburgh University to implement BCT-SUD in Edinburgh, Scotland. The results of this study are being used to inform larger scale BCT implementation efforts across Scotland.
He has won numerous awards for his teaching, leadership, and research including but not limited to the 2021 Outstanding Professional Award (IAMFC), 2020 AMHCA Dr. Linda Seligman Counselor Education of the Year, 2020 Outstanding Professional Member Award (MCA), 2019 Outstanding Professional Member Award, European Branch of the American Counseling Association (EB-ACA), and the 2019 NBCC Foundation Bridge Builder Award for International Service.
Dr. Klostermann received his PhD in Counselor Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
