Advocates

SOF Network recognizes that not everyone needs nor desires to speak with a licensed clinician. For these individuals “Advocates” was created. Advocates are former members of the SOF community who are here to help in anyway the can.

  • Matthew Nardo

    Former SF

    Matthew Nardo served in the United States Army Special Forces (5th SFG) (Green Beret) as an 18E & 18F. As an OIF veteran, he earned his Masters in Criminal Justice from Boston University and founded a non profit (The Green Beret LIEE) to create an outdoor support network for the military community through the use of competitive shooting sports. Matt uses this platform to build camaraderie, embrace healthy competition and leverage leadership while also bringing awareness to mental health and moral injury. Current expedition work focuses on SOF, their children and families.

    Some of Matt’s military education and training includes: Special Forces Qualification course; Special Forces Communication Sergeant’s course; Special Forces INTEL Sergeant’s course; Gryphon Group; Blackbird Combat Surveillance course; ASO; Mid South Combat Shooting School; SERE Level C course; TCCC; EMR; Mountain Warfare School; FEEMA Enhanced Threat and Risk Assessment course; National Tactical Officers Firearms Instructors course; A.L.I.C.E Active Shooter Response Instructor course; Modern Standard Arabic. Matt is a NRA instructor, USSCA instructor and is NTOA certified.

    While nothing can recreate the adrenaline rush of his time with SF, Matt is an avid racer and has been since he was a young kid. He was the 2011 CCS GTO Rookies Cup Champion and the 2015 CRA Amateur, Unlimited Superbike, Unlimited Supersport and Unlimited GP Champion.

  • Jose Vazquez

    Retired SF

    Jose is a Retired Special Forces Sergeant Major with multiple deployments with the 7th Special Forces Group, and the Joint Special Operations Command.

    While assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group (A), Jose deployed numerous times to Central and South America, and twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Combined Joint Task Force-76 from 2004-2005 and Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan from 2018-2019.

    While assigned to JSOC, Jose deployed to Qatar in support of both Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Jose spent some time as a Military Free Instructor and became a Military Free Fall Examiner and a Tandem Instructor Examiner with over 4,500 jumps to include 2,700 student jumps, and more than 1,400 Tandem Jumps, as well as a Professional Jump Demonstrator.

    After retirement with 29 years of Active-Duty Service, Jose continued his passion for teaching Military Free Fall and works as an Instructor for multiple units within the Special Operations Command, as well as starting Long Tab Lines, a Non-Profit Outdoor Recreation Company for SOF Operators and their Spouses, Gold Star Families, and First Responders.

    Long Tab Lines is an Outdoor Recreation Company dedicated to Special Operation Forces and their families, Gold Star Families and First Responders to reduce the suicide and divorce rates that plague those communities.
