Carmen Grant, LCSW
Carmen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in San Diego County CA. She received her MSW from the University of Southern California (#fighton). She utilizes an integrated method of psychotherapy that includes EMDR, CBT, ACT, IFS, and Somatic Experiencing to guide her clients to the goals they have for their lives. Carmen is a military spouse of 18 years and a mom to three mil-kids. Carmen and her family have gone through eight deployments, and five PCS moves with two being OCONUS.
Carmen recognizes being attached to the SOF community brings an immense sense of pride blended with a unique complexity that most people aren’t prepared for. She recognizes tools for service members and their families aren’t standard issue when facing this unique lifestyle. Carmen’s own struggles and failures as a military spouse led her to become a therapist to help other military spouses, kids, and service members learn the skills quicker by utilizing her clinical expertise and her own experiences in the SOF community.
Carmen has a laid-back therapy style, that is personal, and effective. She has seen her approach leading to quicker connections and a more complete healing for her clients. She shares, “I won't ever tell you pick yourself up from your bootstraps and suck it up. Sucking it up and denying your pain isn't brave or admirable - it is dangerous. Bravery is being here, looking for help, and preparing to build the skills you need to live. I can't wait to help guide you towards better”.
She reports, “The only constants we live with are the unpredictable needs of the U.S. military. Needs that must be put first to be as prepared and equipped to complete a successful mission. From the family point of view this is less mission oriented and more about the safety of their loved ones. The more they train, the better the chance they come home”.
