Dr. Lisa Harmon has over 16 years of clinical experience working in various government agencies: all-encompassing the mental health needs of adults, children, and families. Dr. Harmon completed her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and earned her Master of Social Work in 2005 from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2014, she completed her Doctorate Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Dr. Harmon has worked as an embedded mental health provider at 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Ft. Campbell, KY and was a member of the Preservation of Family and Force program at US Special Operations Command at MacDill, AFB. She currently works as Chief of the Rehabilitation Division at the United Stated Disciplinary Barracks at Ft. Leavenworth, KS.  Dr. Harmon works from an integrative approach, featuring psychodynamic principle along with a cognitive behavioral model where a client’s past experiences are explored to gain insight into present experiences, thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Therapy also focuses on developing skills for changing behaviors once they are better understood.  Dr. Harmon have numerous trainings and certifications in multiple evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Mindfulness, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy for depression, and group therapies. Research interest include role of cultural and personality influence in PTSD’s symptomology, factors influencing risk and resilience in trauma, application of behavioral models to suicidal behaviors, family support services, and trauma and attachment. Dr. Harmon is published in the Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment (2016), "A review of the effectiveness of military suicide prevention programs in reducing rates of military suicides." Lisa and her husband have been part of the Special Operations community for over 18 years and have three sons.
